If you have made it here, then you know my name is Jill Washecka. I am a fitness enthusiast, mom to (2) kids [Ryan, 12 and Zoe, 9] and happily married to my husband Adam for over 16 years.
When I was 9 years old (exact same age as Zoe is now), I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC). UC is a disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. From the age of 9 until I was 30-ish I completed all of the treatments. Rounds of steroids, daily medicines, fiber spoonfuls...They worked to a point, but not perfectly. I had to be very mindful of where the bathroom was in ANY given situation and my doctor always told me I had a high threshold for discomfort and pain, but what choice did I have? After I had Zoe in 2012, I could not get the UC under control. Eventually, I was prescribed biologics, which meant sitting at a hospital every few months for an infusion that would decrease the reaction of my immune system. This process was uncomfortable, long, annoying AND it wasn't working. I went to my doctor and said 'what else can I do?' She said, "you can change your diet.'
At this point, I was willing to try anything. I will sum up the last 7 years into a brief paragraph. After initially cutting out grains, gluten, sugar and dairy, I slowly began a re-introduction process to find out what food made me feel the best! At my last check-up, my doctor said I had never looked better AND I have not had a flare, or taken a pill for it since. Food can be used to heal.
The most important takeaways is that I feel great most days. I feel energized, strong, confident and sexy (this one is very important to me).
Guess what, you can too!
I still enjoy the things life has to offer like wine and chocolate, but it has to be about balance and I CAN help you find that balance.
