Morning Rituals to Get Ahead of Your Day

There is something truly magical about the early hours of the day – the world is still, the possibilities seem endless, and a sense of peace provides the perfect canvas for us to paint the day ahead.


For many, mornings are synonymous with grogginess and reluctance, often hitting the snooze button multiple times before reluctantly starting the day. But what if I told you that a personalized morning routine could transform the way you approach each day, setting you up for success and overall well-being?


My Journey to Get Ahead Mornings


Truth be told, I have been a morning person for more years than I can remember. What I love about getting started a bit earlier in the day is nothing gets in the way. No meetings are coming up at 5:00 AM. It takes time to make transitions and maybe your early morning is 6:00 AM instead of 5:00 AM.


Early to Rise


The cornerstone of my morning routine is embracing the power of waking up early. By setting my alarm a bit earlier each day, I created valuable me-time before the rush of the day began. Starting the day with tranquility, rather than chaos, had a profound impact on my mood and productivity. Start small. If 7:00 is your usual, try 6:50 AM, even build in the beloved snooze for the first week. I allow myself one snooze and then I channel Mel Robbins with the 5-second rule. I count down from 5 to 1 and when I get to 1, it is time to get out of bed.


Mindset Matters

The first thing I do every morning after getting up is...lay back down. Yes, I put on my comfiest sweatshirt and go down stairs to the couch to lay down for my morning meditation. Incorporating morning meditation into your daily routine offers a multitude of benefits that can set a positive tone for the entire day. I am about 4+ years into daily meditation and without a doubt it helps me stay calmer, more focused and most important to me, more present in my daily liife. Starting your day with meditation helps to clear your mind, reduce stress, and enhance focus, allowing you to approach your tasks with greater clarity and calm.


Movement Matters

Incorporating movement into my morning routine was a game-changer. Now, I happen to teach early morning classes (3) days per week, but getting up and getting out and moving gives you an endorphin boost and sets a positive tone for the rest of the day. The sense of accomplishment from completing a workout before breakfast is unmatched.


Nourishing the Body and Soul

Fueling my body with a nutritious breakfast is non-negotiable. If you practice intermittent fasting, eat breakfast, and stop eating earlier at night. This first meal of the day is so important for women. In my perfect world, it is scrambled eggs, spinach and a smoothie on the side.


A whole foods meal provides me with the energy I need.


Some mornings, it is breakfast on the go with yogurt or the same scrambled eggs served in a mug. Same high quality food, but more portable!


Hydration is Key


Starting the day with a glass of water can work wonders for your energy levels. Hydrating first thing in the morning kickstarts your metabolism and helps you feel refreshed and alert. Habit stack it. As I walk downstairs to meditate, I drink my first serving of water for the day.


Making It Your Own

Creating a your routine is a personal journey. What works for one person may not work for another. Experiment with different activities and timings until you find a routine that resonates with you. Here are a few additional tips to help you craft your ideal morning routine:
