The Key to My Coaching: Exploring Deep Health

The Power of 80% Success Across All Areas

Perimenopause is a significant transition in a woman's life, marked by hormonal changes that can impact everything from mood to metabolism. During this time, many women find themselves particularly concerned with managing their weight, especially belly fat.

The journey to a healthier body and mind is not about achieving perfection in one area. Instead, it's about striving for 80% success across various aspects of health. This holistic approach, known as deep health, can lead to more sustainable and satisfying results.

What is Deep Health?

Deep health goes beyond the physical aspect of well-being. It encompasses several dimensions:

  1. Physical Health: Your body's overall condition, including fitness, nutrition, and sleep.

  2. Emotional Health: Your ability to manage emotions and stress.

  3. Mental Health: Cognitive functions, mindset, and psychological resilience.

  4. Social Health: Relationships and social interactions.

  5. Environmental Health: The impact of your surroundings on your well-being.

  6. Existential Health: Your sense of purpose and fulfillment in life.

By focusing on these interconnected areas, deep health promotes a balanced and comprehensive approach to well-being.

Why 80% Success is More Effective Than 100%

Striving for perfection in a single area can be overwhelming and unsustainable. Here's why aiming for 80% success across all areas of deep health is a better strategy:

  1. Reduces Stress: Perfectionism can lead to chronic stress and burnout. By aiming for 80% success, you allow yourself the flexibility to adapt and respond to life's demands without undue pressure.

  2. Promotes Balance: Focusing on all dimensions of deep health ensures that no single aspect is neglected. This balance is crucial during perimenopause when hormonal changes can affect various parts of your life.

  3. Sustainable Habits: Achievable goals are more likely to turn into long-term habits. By setting realistic expectations, you're more likely to maintain healthy behaviors over time.

  4. Encourages Resilience: Life is unpredictable, and setbacks are inevitable. An 80% success mindset helps you bounce back from challenges without feeling like you've failed.

Applying the 80% Rule to Deep Health

1. Physical Health

  • Exercise: Incorporate a mix of cardio, strength training, and flexibility exercises. Aim to be active most days of the week without stressing over a missed workout.

  • Nutrition: Focus on a balanced diet rich in whole foods. Allow yourself occasional indulgences without guilt.

  • Sleep: Prioritize good sleep hygiene. Aim for consistent rest, but don't stress over the occasional sleepless night.

2. Emotional Health

  • Stress Management: Practice mindfulness, meditation, or other stress-relief techniques regularly, but be forgiving of stressful days.

  • Emotional Expression: Communicate your feelings and seek support when needed. It's okay to have off days.

3. Mental Health

  • Cognitive Engagement: Stay mentally active through reading, puzzles, or learning new skills. Aim for regular mental stimulation without perfectionism.

  • Positive Mindset: Practice self-compassion and challenge negative thoughts, understanding that it's a process.

4. Social Health

  • Relationships: Nurture your relationships with family and friends. Aim for quality interactions rather than quantity.

  • Social Activities: Engage in social activities that you enjoy, but allow yourself downtime as needed.

5. Environmental Health

  • Healthy Surroundings: Create a home environment that supports your well-being. Small changes can make a big difference.

  • Connection with Nature: Spend time outdoors regularly, even if it's just a short walk.

6. Existential Health

  • Purpose and Fulfillment: Reflect on your values and what brings you joy. Engage in activities that align with your sense of purpose.

  • Mindfulness and Reflection: Take time for self-reflection and mindfulness practices, but don't worry about achieving perfect clarity.
