When I was growing up and going to the grocery store with my parents, the produce section was primarily filled with what was in season at that time of year. We happen to live in the NOW where almost everything is available all year round. There happen to be benefits to trying to eat more seasonally.
BENEFITS OF EATING SEASONALLY
Seasonal food is fresher, tastier and more nutritious than food consumed out of season. According to an online Seasonal Food Guide, 'unlike out of season produce which is harvested early in order to be shipped and distributed to your local retail store, crops picked at their peak of ripeness are also better tasting and full of flavor. What’s more, studies have shown that fruits and vegetables contain more nutrients when allowed to ripen naturally on their parent plant."
